The sensual boudoir photos that we see today date back to the 1920s, a time when nudity was pretty scandalous. So it makes sense that people who are nervous or body-conscious may feel that this style of photography is not for them, when in fact, boudoir is for all women.
You and your body deserve to be celebrated, and we believe this is what makes boudoir-style photography so wonderful. It’s about capturing your beauty, vulnerability and sensuality, a side that can be forgotten when – let’s face it – life is so busy!
So where should you start when looking for bridal boudoir photography in Sydney? What happens in a boudoir photography session?
To answer your questions, we’ve put together a guide to give you the complete low-down.
What is Bridal Boudoir Photography?
Boudoir photography is a type of intimate portrait session that involves posing in lingerie or partially nude. The difference between a bridal boudoir and a classic boudoir shoot is in the wedding details. It takes the elements of your wedding day theme to create a collection of pictures that you can keep and treasure forever.
The photo session usually takes place in private and opulent surroundings with luxury furniture. In our case at Intimately You Boudoir Photography, it’s in our luxury home studio on the Northern Beaches in Sydney, with the studio set up exclusively for boudoir photography.
How Do I Prepare for a Boudoir Photo Shoot?
It might be tempting to go on a crazy diet, but a boudoir photo shoot is about celebrating you as you are. However, there are a few things that you can do to make you feel great during the photography session:
- If you plan to wax or shave, make sure you do this at least 3 to 5 days before
- Beauty treatments like manicures are great for a little pampering and have your hands and feet photo-ready. We recommend you do this a couple of days before
- Stay hydrated with water and avoid alcohol and caffeine the night before
- Moisturise on the day and avoid wearing anything tight that can leave impressions on your skin
Finally, there’s a reason why sleep is called beauty sleep so remember to get plenty of rest!
What Should I Wear for Boudoir Photography?
With so many different styles of lingerie on the market, the world is your oyster when it comes to outfit choices. If you’re unsure, a couple of things you can focus on are colour and a style of lingerie that works well with your body shape. We provide full wardrobe and outfit guidance for each of our clients before the shoot. I recommend bodysuits mostly as they are so flattering and our clients always feel comfortable in them.
Bridal lingerie is white, but it’s not a hard and fast rule to bring only white to your pre-wedding boudoir shoot. Adding in a dark set and a coloured set will give your album nice variety.
How Do I Pose for Boudoir?
Often one of the main worries women face before their boudoir session is how you should pose. As your photographer, I will fully guide you through a range of poses that highlight your features. If there are certain poses that you like, you’re always welcome to show me a few inspiration photos too.
